Lock On (commonly known as LOMAC) was Eagle Dynamics second foray into flight simulation after their 1995 release of Su-27 Flanker. It featured a combat area modelled after the Black Sea region and a decent mix of eastern and western aircraft in both air-to-air and air-to-ground roles.

The game would see a couple of updates to add more advanced flight modelling, better cockpits, additional aircraft and so on, first as point upgrades to the original game and then as the more extensive Flaming Cliffs expansions. After Flaming Cliffs 2.0 had been released, work begun on a version 3.0, which would eventually transform into a completely new game — DCS World — and the Flaming Cliffs 3 name was carried along as the name of a DCS expansion that brought the original LOMAC aircraft along as simplified aircraft in this new, more advanced, flight simulator.
